Radon System Maintenance Guide by Radiant Alliance, LLC

Radiant Alliance, LLC provides expert repair services for all types of Radon mitigation systems. The average lifespan of a standard Radon mitigation fan is approximately 7 to 10 years. However, as with any electromechanical device, the fan’s lifespan can vary unexpectedly.

Troubleshooting Your Radon Mitigation System

If you suspect an issue with your Radon mitigation system or are unsure if it’s functioning, try these basic diagnostic steps before requesting a service visit. We frequently receive inquiries about system performance, and these checks can help identify the problem:

Check for Audible Alarms and Power Issues

If your system has an audible vacuum loss alarm and it’s beeping, inspect the power switch near the fan or check your circuit breakers. Our systems are marked with an orange label for easy identification. Next, examine the manometer (a U-shaped tube typically located on the mitigation pipe). If the liquid levels in the manometer are equal, the fan may be malfunctioning.

Inspect the Manometer

The manometer, a U-shaped tube on the basement mitigation pipe, holds colored liquid (blue, green, or red). A label on the nearby PVC pipe shows baseline installation data. Uneven liquid levels suggest the system is working. Compare the manometer reading to the label’s vacuum pressure; matching values confirm consistent performance.

Non-Operational System

If the manometer’s liquid levels are even, the system is likely off. Check for a switched-off electrical switch, a tripped circuit breaker, a triggered GFCI outlet, or any other power disruption affecting the fan.

Still Experiencing Issues? Contact Us!

Simply call our office to schedule a technician visit. If the technician can restore the system without additional parts, you’ll only owe a service call fee. If the fan requires replacement, we carry a full inventory of commonly used Radon mitigation fans and components, ensuring a swift repair to get your system back online.

Handling Audible Vacuum Loss Alarm Issues

If your vacuum loss alarm is beeping despite the fan operating, this may occur after power fluctuations or outages. To reset the alarm:

  • Locate the alarm and gently press with your thumbs on the lower front half to slide the cover downward, revealing the battery.
  • Remove the battery, wait a few minutes, then reinsert it (positive side to the right).
  • Slide the cover back into place. After about a minute, the alarm should emit a single beep, indicating a successful reset.

Slow Beeping with a “Battery” Light?

A slow beep accompanied by an illuminated “battery” light signals that the battery needs replacement. These batteries typically last 3 to 5 years. You can find replacements at Batteries Plus or order one online through Amazon.

Radon Risks in Virginia

Radon is a colorless, odorless gas that is naturally found in soil and can seep into homes, posing health risks. Understanding radon levels in Virginia can help ensure safety and proper mitigation measures.

WHERE IS RADON?

Radon is everywhere!  Even outside the average is 0.4 pCi/l.  The average US home is 1.3 pCi/l.  The EPA guideline is any level 4.0 pCi/l or higher must be mitigated and consider mitigation if between 2.0 and 3.9 pCi/l.  There is no safe level of radon but the lower the better.  With so many people working from home, children playing in the lower levels of the home, why chance it. Test and mitigate as needed. Reduce the risks associated with radon.  These maps are a general guideline.
